I think I predicted earlier when I opened the cereal box sized package of shingles that this would be an intensive and bothersome aspect of the wabi sabi dollhouse. I am correct. The house is 95% complete. Minus shingling. I need to get back to dying shingles--remember that whole ordeal? Again, it's too hot and the stain is too stinky to do inside. For now, I'm okay with the shingle progress.

Grrr...shingles
I think I predicted earlier when I opened the cereal box sized package of shingles that this would be an intensive and bothersome aspect of the wabi sabi dollhouse. I am correct. The house is 95% complete. Minus shingling. I need to get back to dying shingles--remember that whole ordeal? Again, it's too hot and the stain is too stinky to do inside. For now, I'm okay with the shingle progress.
A tale of three glues...

Shingle installation recommended a non-water based adhesive. After installing two rows and losing numerous brain cells, I reverted to Aleene. Directions stated that a water based adhesive would cause the fragile shingles to curl. After a test spot and no curling, Aleene and I were back to our dynamic partnership (until I ran out of stained shingles). Super Glue (just the smallest dab--learned that the hard way) stuck the acrylic window "glass" into their panes.
A Thing of Beauty and Wonder
After putting in several hours on the house today, I just want to sit back and gaze at this thing of beauty and wonder. If I could only move into it myself (except it has no bathroom).
Today I wrapped up most of the finer details. Windows installed with "glass", door hung, room walls created and even the stairs now make the second floor accessible. I imagine just a few more days of exterior parts, like the exterior trim and the wabi sabi dollhouse will be complete.

Dear Aileen, I miss you.
Aileen's Glue is kind and gentle. She may be tough but a little vinegar and she's forgiving. A little soap and water and she vanishes from your hands. She's tidy and never stinky. I didn't appreciate all of these attributes until I tangled with the adhesive needed for the shingles (think old school rubber cement but more sticky). I now have a slight headache after 2 rows of shingles. The pads of my fingers are covered with a residue that resembles extraterrestrial boogers.
Dollhouse Under Construction
After a short hiatus, the construction has picked up again. There's a lot of trim work and finishing left to do and you can't forget the SHINGLES.
